3。5 stars。 I wasn’t too familiar with the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer that this novel was based on。 Hosea is told by God to marry a prostitute。 “Redeeming Love” is a reimagining of that story set in the late 1800’s in California。 It is a story of redemption—extended to even the “lowest” of sinners。

This book！ Wow！ The word that kept popping into my mind while trying to think of some adjectives to describe it is: deep。 This book is deep。 It is complex。 There is so much to the story that it is unspoken/unwritten but is right below the surface。I read Redeeming Love because my BFF and I were discussing good books and she named this one as her favorite of all time。 She told me how the message makes her feel and how she is amazed every time she reads it。 I thought that if she rereads it because This book！ Wow！ The word that kept popping into my mind while trying to think of some adjectives to describe it is: deep。 This book is deep。 It is complex。 There is so much to the story that it is unspoken/unwritten but is right below the surface。I read Redeeming Love because my BFF and I were discussing good books and she named this one as her favorite of all time。 She told me how the message makes her feel and how she is amazed every time she reads it。 I thought that if she rereads it because it that good， I should give it a chance。 The basic premise of the story is that a prostitute who had a superbly difficult childhood is working in a brothel in Gold Rush era California。 Angel is just existing， spending 30 minutes at a time with men who have paid dearly for her skills。 She is beyond beautiful and highly desired but Angel feels trapped and sad。 Enter Micheal- a religious white knight sort of man who actually marries and rescues Angel after a beating by the brothel guard。 Micheal is a farmer who lives simply but feels called by God to rescue Angel， marry her and love her。 Because of Angel's past， she feels unable to love and be loved。 She challenges Michael at every turn and even leaves multiple times。 Their story together is amazing and you can feel the love he has for her even as she pushes him away。The symbolism and strong message in this book is like an undercurrent through the entire thing。 While reading， I kept telling my friend that there is so much under the surface of the words。 It feels almost real and tangible！ This story about the power of love and forgiveness resonates and will stay with you！ 。。。more
